Support your local animal shelter
Allow me to deviate one time from my otherwise useless dribble.
Do you know how many millions of dogs and cats have to be put down every year? It's a huge depressing number. We took actions with our dog to have him fixed, and to this day I still hear stupid comments such as "Oh, I couldn't do that to my dog, that's just cruel". Oh, so it's not cruel that your dog runs off at the first smell of a dog in heat? You no longer have control and this affects your dogs safety and well being. How many times do I have to hear a dog getting run over by a car? Injured in a fight with another dog? Statistcally, spayed/neutered dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives.
We recently found a beautiful cat and realized we could not take it to the pound, where she would be put down. And we have found out the no-kill shelters are all at capacity and need funds badly to help place and take care of the animals that come into their care.
One such shelter is Circle Tail. Circle Tail stands out from the crowd because they also shelter dogs and train them to be service dogs for people with disabilities (other than blindness). Those dogs that don't make the program, still get trained for adoption to families. They are even working to train the dogs for programming.
So if I get my pick on how to outsource my job, I'd rather it go to Fido rather then "Charlie" in India.
Seriously though, if you would like to help, there are a number of ways to contribute. First, go adopt a pet. Second, volunteer. I understand these are not realistic options for a lot of people. So I go for option number three, help a volunteer! Please send an email to a great volunteer coordinator Debbie Swider, asking her for a Kroger card. It's a free card that you take to Kroger and pre-pay. They work like pre-paid phone cards. You put money on them and use them at Kroger a percentage of the money spent then goes to Circle Tail.
I also recently received this from Debbie...
I am collecting paper (all kinds, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office paper) for a fundraiser for the Kenton County animal Shelter. I will happily pick it up from and transport it to Kentucky if anyone is interested in participating. Good time for spring cleaning home and business offices!!!!
Deb
Sounds like a win win folks.
