Get ready for Vista
Microsoft has released a "Get Ready" page on their Vista site. Appears that this will not be your fathers upgrade.
What struck me off the bat is the two classifications of PC's that will run Vista. The "You're a loser and shall sit in the corner version", and the rest of the "cilvilized geeks in the Premium room".
The low end loser requirements are:
800 mhz processor
512 MB of system memory.
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
To be a true geek and get in on the Windows Aero user experience, or just run the basics we are expecting to be normal such as the ability to watch and record live TV, will require additional hardware.
The Geeks Premium Ready PC includes at least:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
1 GB of system memory.
A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero2.
128 MB of graphics memory.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
DVD-ROM Drive3.
Audio output capability.
Internet access capability.
