Why did Zizou do it?

The moment Zidane headbutted Materazzi to the ground

I do have a theory, but I still can't imagine why Zidane would fall for it and allow himself to lose it during his last game in final OT moments of a World Cup final. I mean, if you're going to head butt someone in front of billions of people in TV land, then finish off with a Rooney kick to the groin for lasting effect.

I suspect he fell for the ole Shadow player, Glue stick Redneck, Box and One, what ever you want to call it where you stick a player on the other team's dominate player, and basically talk about his mom, girlfriend, dog, what ever. Back in my redneck Northwest Sr High School varsity playing days, this was basically the game plan we used against teams that had that one dominate player/play maker. You stick to them regardless if their team had the ball or not, deny them as much time with the ball as possible, get into their head with smack talk and you can effectively take them out of the game.

The ironic part is that Zidane was still voted the Player of the World Cup. The vote is taken at half time, and thus did not reflect the "Dumbest Moment of the World Cup".

Oh, and Italy won the World Cup. Guess that was the next big news. However, we need to come up with a better solution to penalty Kicks. I suspect if they would remove the restriction on substitutes, get some more fresh legs involved, or allow legs to get a break and come back in, that alone would fix this terrible gimmick. Any other ideas?

And no Matt, knives or brass knuckles are not an option.
